How it works

Simple, secure, and designed around you.

Getting started with telehealth therapy is easier than you might think. Here is everything you need to know before your first session.

The process

From first contact to ongoing support

01

Reach out

Book directly through Halaxy, or send an email to [email protected]. If you have questions before committing, feel free to get in touch — there is no pressure to book until you feel ready.

02

Initial session

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We will talk about what has brought you to therapy, your goals, and what you are hoping to get out of our work together. There is no expectation to share more than you are comfortable with.

03

Collaborative planning

Together we develop a treatment plan tailored to your needs and goals. This is a flexible, evolving document — we review and adjust it regularly as you progress.

04

Ongoing sessions

Sessions are typically held weekly or fortnightly, depending on your needs and preferences. Each session builds on the last, with practical strategies and reflection woven throughout.

05

Review and transition

We regularly review your progress together. When you have achieved your goals or feel ready to manage independently, we plan a thoughtful transition — including the option to return if needed.

Telehealth sessions

What to expect in a session

Sessions are conducted via secure video call — all you need is a device with a camera and microphone, and a private space where you feel comfortable talking. Sessions are 50 minutes in length and are held at a time that suits you, including some early morning and evening availability.

Secure and confidential

Sessions are conducted via a secure, encrypted video platform. Your privacy and confidentiality are protected at every step.

50-minute sessions

Standard sessions run for 50 minutes. This gives us enough time to work meaningfully without feeling rushed.

Flexible scheduling

Sessions are available across a range of times, including early mornings and evenings, to fit around your work and life commitments.

Australia-wide

As a fully telehealth practice, I can see clients anywhere in Australia — no matter how remote or how busy your schedule.

Fees and rebates

Understanding the cost

I am committed to making psychological support as accessible as possible. Below is an overview of fees and the rebate options available to eligible clients.

1

Standard session fee

The fee for a standard 50-minute session is $252.99.

2

Medicare rebates (Mental Health Care Plan)

If you have a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate on up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year. This significantly reduces the out-of-pocket cost of therapy.

3

How to get a Mental Health Care Plan

Speak to your GP and ask for a Mental Health Care Plan referral. Your GP will assess your needs and, if appropriate, prepare a plan that you can bring to your first session. You do not need a referral to book, but having one in place before your first session means you can access the rebate from the start.

4

Cancellation policy

I ask for at least 48 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. Late cancellations or missed appointments may incur a fee.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral to book?

No — you can book directly without a referral. However, if you would like to access Medicare rebates, you will need a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP. You can arrange this before or after your first session.

What technology do I need?

You will need a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a working camera and microphone, and a stable internet connection. A private, quiet space where you feel comfortable talking is also important.

Is telehealth as effective as in-person therapy?

Research consistently shows that telehealth psychology is as effective as in-person therapy for most presentations. Many clients find the convenience and comfort of being in their own space actually enhances the therapeutic experience.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies depending on your goals and the nature of what you are working on. Some people find significant benefit in 6–10 sessions; others prefer longer-term support. We will discuss this together and review regularly.

What if I am in crisis?

Steady Wings Psychology is not a crisis service. If you are in immediate danger or need urgent assistance, call 000 immediately. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis and need immediate support, contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.
